mushrooms
fungi circling | in west virginia forests | I come to forage
cortinarius transiens. shiny, purple gills. seems to only be found in the spruce forests of wv.
of the genus russula. species unknown, professor commented it is rare.
gorgeous autumnal body. my best guess is the suilus ponderosus, or ponderous slippery jack. but those seem to only be found on the west coast. please reach out if you have a proper ID for this fella.
tylopilus felleus, or bitter bolete. bread-like, one of the most common mushrooms found around the new river gorge.
lactarius helvus, or the burnt-sugar milky. a pair of conjoined twins.
lactarius lignyotus, the chocolate milky. these look delicious.
i'm not sure what this is.
cortinarius iodes, viscid violet cort. one of the prettiest species. definetly used in some manner by pretty faries.
a large bondarzewia berkeleyi, or berkeley's polypore. an old world remenant, edible but bitter.
